Ganesha is the name of a Hindu god of wisdom, prophecy, and the removal of obstacles. His name comes from the Sanskrit words gana, which means "common people", and isha, which means "Lord". This translates to "Lord of the People" or "Lord of the Ganas", as Ganesha is the leader of the ganas, Shiva's goblin hosts.
